Plum Creek is a mixed-use master-planned community of approximately 2,200 acres in the city of Kyle, Hays County, Texas, about 21 miles southwest of downtown Austin along Interstate 35. Initial construction began in 1997, making Plum Creek one of the earlier large-scale New Urbanist developments in the Austin metro. The community is designed around traditional-neighborhood-development principles with front porches, alleys, tree-lined streets, mixed residential densities, and an internal grid that was unusual for Central Texas suburban development when it launched.
At planned buildout, Plum Creek is projected to include roughly 2,500 residential homes alongside up to 500,000 square feet of retail and office space, a hotel and convention site, and a central public park system. The community is organized around several anchor amenities, including Plum Creek Golf Course — an 18-hole public championship course designed by Roy Bechtol that opened in 1999 — and Negley Fishing Lake, a 30-acre pond ringed by walking and biking trails. Austin Community College operates its Hays Campus on approximately 100 acres inside the Plum Creek footprint.
The community is governed by an HOA with mandatory assessments and architectural review. Plum Creek sits within the Hays Consolidated Independent School District, which enrolled 25,049 students across 28 campuses in 2026, and homes in the neighborhood feed into HCISD elementary, middle, and high schools. The Kyle area along the I-35 innovation corridor has grown substantially — Kyle's population reached 45,697 in the 2020 Census, making it one of the faster-growing cities in Central Texas — and Plum Creek has been a significant contributor to that residential growth.

Groceries and daily retail are concentrated along Kyle Crossing and the I-35 frontage roads, including Kyle Marketplace and the broader commercial area around the I-35 / FM 1626 interchange. Additional retail, dining, and services are a short drive north into Buda or south into San Marcos.
Commuting is defined by I-35: downtown Austin is roughly 21 miles north, typically 25 to 40 minutes outside rush hour and longer during peak congestion, and San Marcos / Texas State University is about 9 to 12 miles south. The H-E-B Corporate-adjacent retail corridor in Buda and the Tesla Gigafactory Texas area in eastern Travis County are both reachable via SH-45 and SH-130.
