The Pond Springs name dates to a historic settlement on Live Oak Prairie at the intersection of present-day FM 620 and US-183, approximately nine miles southwest of Round Rock in southwestern Williamson County. The Texas State Historical Association records the community's history as a rural settlement that was eventually absorbed into northwest Austin's suburban expansion.

The neighborhood developed primarily in the 1980s and 1990s as the US-183 corridor grew into a technology and commercial employment center.
